The logical conclusion of militarist nationalism (often called "patriotism") is always, in one way or another, a "Final Solution."

... I don't know if you're familiar with the late Aime Cesaire's "Discourse on Colonialism" which was published by Monthly Review Press some time back, but it's a series of conversations Cesaire had with the poet Renee Depestre that had pretty much the same tone you've taken here, with a lot of concrete examples of where the escalation towards Hitler could be seen in the domination of the so-called "third world" by the western powers. I think the original publication of the interviews was right after the Second World War, in 1952. Anyway, it's a short work and worth time spent if you've got time. |

... Yes, a final solution. To all the bullshit, dilletante Christians in our government I would suggest: "Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren, ye have done it unto Me." If only people would live it. |

Chris there is obviously a massive disconnect between the ethical reasoning of almost all politicians, together with a large percentage of the US population and the people who read the likes of you and Silber. How did this come about and is it possible to correct? |

PENTAGON BUDGET ; DELUSIONAL It is quite clear to me and many others, that the Pentagon Budget for military actions in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Somalia is delusional. We cannot predict how many more lives or how much money it will take to resolve these matters ‘if that is even possible’. Furthermore- The Pentagon is already over budget for 2009. Beyond this point, the exit from Iraq must commence as soon as possible. (The U.S. troop level in Iraq has already been cut by 20,000 this year, to about 122,000.) The Afghanistan War is not a war the US can ‘win’. This troop escalation is very similar to the build up in Viet Nam. While noted objectors and scholars have warned against a similar build up, the Generals don’t seem to understand that we can no longer live in a perpetual war state created by ‘Terrorism’; Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld. “A perpetual war is not a winnable war.” Blaqfather References Used in This Blog: All references have been de-linked for accuracy.
