Fire-Starter: Supporting Arthur Silber PDF Print E-mail
Written by Chris Floyd

Arthur Silber has been silent for quite some time, and his last post spoke of horrific problems with his health -- which has been declining for a long time, and now seems to have taken a deep plunge.

I don't know his precise situation at the moment, but it is likely to be dire.  I imagine too that in addition to the health problems, he is facing the usual crush of bills at the end of the month. He is one of our strongest and most thought-provoking voices, yet is forced to live at the margins of society, while witless poltroons and egregious time-servers swim in gravy.

I am not authorized to speak for him, and am not speaking for him -- but just on my own volition, I would urge you to go to his site and, if you have anything to give, give what you can to support Silber in this difficult time. We need his insight, we need his wit, we need the disturbing, productive fire in the mind that he can light.

And while you're there, avail yourself of some of the "Major Essays" listed on the side; this is powerful stuff, and you won't see anything like it anywhere else.

Supporting Arthur Silber
I send him a little each month. I wish it could be more. I believe anyone who reads his work should do the same. And for those that do not read his work, they should take the opportunity to read some of it. You will got get his views in "The newspaper of record" and other allegedly left-wing news media.

200 spacebucks pushed his way.

I mean, fuck it, it's not like I've spent a single penny on newspapers in the last 10 years.

I despise how my mind sees the ongoing vandalism here and the slow, inexorable decline of Mr Silber as 2 sides of the same coin.

BTW,

http://www.dodbuzz.com/2009/07/28/cias-phoenix-program-flies-again/

"Phoenix rises again"

"a RAND research team says the controversial Phoenix program demands reexamination and may provide useful lessons for the ongoing war in Afghanistan.

According to the RAND study, the Phoenix program has been mischaracterized as an assassination program. It was not. Phoenix was an intelligence operation that aimed to lift the shrouds of the “invisible Vietcong empire” that operated in rural villages and hamlets."

How can this possibly go wrong?!

I'd like to thank Obama - as a 20-something I've got no first-hand experience of just what Vietnam was like at the time. More and more, looks like I'm going to get it.

As an unemployed twenty something Silber would be my first port of call if I had any spare change but times are tough and getting tougher. At the moment looking at the possibility of losing either my internet connection, my electricity, or my apartment. No Green shots to report from Dublin guys smilies/sad.gif

Reckon by next month I'll be checking on Chris Floyd from an Internet cafe. But if any other concerned citizens want to send some mojo to Silber send my regards while doing it smilies/cool.gif

I hope Arthur is ok. I miss his writing. He has given me much food for thought over the last couple of years. I hope his health improves. His is a prime example of why the US health system is so very f*cked. Here in Aus he would be entitled to so much more, deservedly so. A society than can not, or will not, take care of the less fortunate, has no right to call itself civilised.

No offense, Chris, but I'm not sending money to some mook I don't know. For all I know, YOU could be Arthur Silber and this could all be a scam.

And I will....
....continue to support Arthur Silber, a worthy cause indeed. Arthur has real fire and clarity in his writing. His plight is a fine example of what a pathetic, selfish, morally bankrupt culture we have become. I am sick of the "me" society. I want a "we" society, thank you, and will be supporting Arthur as best I can.

No offense, Dave, but you sound like one slow-on-the-uptake mook yourself. Or else someone too lazy to, you know, google Arthur Silber -- or Chris Floyd, for that matter -- to quell your suspicion of some deep dark conspiracy to steal a few pennies of your petty cash through an elaborate subterfuge of counterfeit identities.

The best thing we can do for Arthur is raise enough funds to move him to Canada. As long as he lives in Los Angeles he won't get the health care and affordable housing he deserves. If I lived in Los Angeles I'd be knocking on his door right now with some groceries. I wish there was someone out there who'd be willing to check up on him on a regular basis.
